Life at Mutual Trust
When you join Mutual Trust, you join a purpose-led organisation with a positive and engaging culture. We provide you with the flexibility, inclusiveness, support and resources required to help you embrace your full potential and thrive in your career.
"We are building on a culture which simultaneously enables our people to be their best and Mutual Trust to be the leading Multi-Family Office."
Damian Bowden – Head of People, Culture, Marketing & Communications
Flexible and modern working practices
Work is just one important aspect of your life. That’s why we offer a variety of flexible options to help you achieve balance.
We permanently operate in a hybrid environment, empowering you to flex location (dependent on role and hours of work) to best meet your client, team and individual needs and circumstances. There is also the opportunity to purchase up to four weeks of additional leave each year.
Supporting your career journey
Regardless of where you are in your career, our commitment to professional training and development supports your growth and empowers you to achieve your career goals and learning objectives.
Mutual Trust University
Knowledge sharing and connecting is important to what we do at Mutual Trust. That’s why, every two years, all of our people attend Mutual Trust University – an offsite conference of immersive learning and development held over two to three business days. Along with opportunities to network and connect with peers and leaders, Mutual Trust University enables our people to share valuable insights, learn and further develop their skills.
Reward and recognition
Recognising our high performers is a top priority. Along with our reward and recognition program, we formally recognise and celebrate achievements which align with the Mutual Trust values on a six-monthly basis.
"I absolutely love the challenge of tackling complex problems in my role. The satisfaction I get from finding creative solutions and making a difference where I can is truly fulfilling. It’s this ability to positively contribute to the Firm which drives my passion for the work I do."
Rose Piper – Executive Assistant, Tax, Accounting, Consulting & Superannuation
Celebrating diversity, equity and inclusion
Our people bring some wonderfully diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to Mutual Trust. This diversity fosters innovation and creativity. It also creates an environment where you feel comfortable to be yourself and contribute to the workplace in a meaningful way.
At Mutual Trust, we are committed to providing our people and our clients with a workplace which reflects the broader community and is supportive and respectful of different groups of individuals. This includes different races, ages, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders and sexual orientations.
There are always a broad range of initiatives underway to build on our inclusive workplace culture. These initiatives are led by our Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Committee, made up of nine senior leaders across the Firm who report to the CEO and the People, Culture and Remuneration Committee.
Employer of Choice for Gender Equality
We are proud to be recognised as an Employer of Choice by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). This citation verifies Mutual Trust’s action-based approach towards improving the working lives of women and men throughout the Firm.
Mutual Trust encourages and promotes a commitment to gender equality. Along with supporting the development of our women employees through a formal mentoring program, there are a range of initiatives underway to positively impact the senior gender mix.
Our gender equality commitment has helped to significantly lift the number of women in senior roles. Currently, women make up 56% of our workforce and 43% of roles at the manager level and above. More broadly, our Partners and Leaders aspire to role model and reinforce the right behaviours to encourage flexibility, collaboration and a supportive work/life balance.
Health and wellbeing
We are passionate about health and wellbeing. In addition to an annual health & wellbeing allowance, our people enjoy opportunities to participate in fitness events throughout the year, such as Steptember and Run Melbourne, along with a weekly run club. Across each of our offices, our healthy workplaces include daily fresh fruit and a stocked kitchen.
A range of valuable and strictly confidential Health and Wellbeing services are accessible for employees and their family members through our partnership with Assure Programs.
This includes counselling, wellbeing coaching, introductory dietary advice, introductory legal advice and a manager support program.
Many of our people have diverse caregiving responsibilities.
Our partnership with Circle In provides access to a personalised Parents and Caregiver’s Platform, offering a wealth of information and support to help manage the complexities of intertwined career and caregiving journeys.
Staff entertainment
We work hard - and we have fun! Throughout the year we hold a wide range of staff entertainment events to suit varied interests and availabilities. This includes end of week socials, morning teas, mid and year-end celebrations, pool tournaments, creative activities, team charity days and footy tipping competitions, to name a few.
Mutual Trust's Staff Giving Program
Our Staff Giving Program enables you to choose to give your time, treasure and talent to support your philanthropic ideals, with Mutual Trust matching internal fundraising efforts.
Each year, our people come together voluntarily through this staff-led initiative to make a difference towards a designated area of focus. For 2024, work is underway to make a difference across Education and Homelessness, supporting two chosen organisations operating in this area.
“The philanthropy side of the Firm makes me proud to work for Mutual Trust. Staff giving is one way I can contribute to Mutual Trust’s philanthropic efforts and it’s really heartening to see how many of my colleagues are eager to be involved. It really is a good feeling to know that you’ve made a difference and given something back.”
Stephanie Boughton – Trust Officer, Development
Our commitment to Reconciliation
Our commitment to providing real impact and opportunities for Indigenous Communities is formalised in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which is endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.
Mutual Trust’s RAP sets out clear, actionable deliverables across reconciliation, relationships, respect, opportunities and governance and reflects the heartfelt manner in which our team are working to positively benefit Indigenous Communities.
Positive reconciliation impact aligns closely with our Purpose of helping families achieve what matters most and the RAP expresses our team’s collective ambition to advance Mutual Trust’s reconciliation journey.
